Raising money in aid of endometriosis research. Name: Cheryl Gilfillan with John and Ella MackieCause you fundraised for: ENDO1000Method of fundraising: Grandparents Diamond Wedding AnniversaryDate of fundraising: 17 April 2024Why did you decide to fundraise?I have endometriosis, which is a debilitating condition that causes (amongst other symptoms) severe pain and chronic fatigue. It took over a decade to be diagnosed with endometriosis and I have had to undergo various surgeries and procedures since receiving my diagnosis. My grandparents – John and Ella Mackie – know how much endometriosis has impacted my life and seeing me in pain really upsets them. They’ve always been a great support to me and I was really touched when they told me that they were going to raise money in aid of endometriosis research. John and Ella Mackie How did you raise money? My gran and granddad recently celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary. They organised a family get-together and told guests that they didn’t want gifts, but instead would appreciate donations to support endometriosis research.Everyone had a lovely time celebrating my grandparents 60 years of marriage, and together they raised £950 in aid of endometriosis research. Another special memory for them both was receiving a diamond anniversary card from the King and Queen! It was great to see my gran and granddad celebrate this important milestone. The money they raised will support the ENDO1000 – a five-year research project that aims to accelerate endometriosis diagnosis and advance treatment.Fundraising wisdom…You can turn almost any celebration into a fundraiser – your family and friends will be happy to know their gift is making a difference.
