Abbie Lane and the All4Paws committee organised a charity auction in aid of the student-run vet clinic. All4Paws is a student-run, veterinarian-supervised vet clinic offering free basic veterinary care for the pets of those who are homeless and vulnerable housed in Edinburgh. I’m currently one of 12 committee members who are all hugely passionate about offering this service in our local community. We offer care and preventative medicine to animals in the city that would not otherwise have access to it, alongside providing a safe space for their owners to come and talk to us. There are significant running costs associated with offering this level of vet care and a charity auction was a great way to raise money. It was also a chance to celebrate all the achievements of All4Paws and to say thanks to our amazing supporters. How did you raise money? This was the third time we’ve run an auction and we now hope to make it an annual event. I began contacting businesses roughly nine months prior to the event in order to find auction lots. This involved a lot of emails as well as lots of walking around to visit local businesses in person. Organising such a big event alongside university studies had its challenges, but these were easily overcome by planning well in advance and asking for help when I needed it. We are very lucky that our committee were all willing to pitch in and help even though they were already busy with various jobs to keep All4Paws running. It was exhausting but always great fun and definitely worth every minute! Fundraising wisdom Ask for help! And don’t forget to share your journey and progression on social media as people love to know how you are getting on. Related Links All4Paws (external link) This article was published on 2024-10-29
