In 2016, my grandfather sadly passed away from sporadic CJD. This was a complete shock to the whole family and due to the complex diagnostic process, it was already too late to really say goodbye when we knew what the cause was. It is important to me to raise money for this underfunded area of research – by increasing funds, I hope that diagnoses can be reached sooner, with the ultimate aim of finding a treatment for this awful disease. How did you raise money? I ran the Newport Marathon and raised money via JustGiving. I posted a link to my JustGiving page on my social media channels, telling friends and family what I was doing and explained about the cause. Luckily, I have very supportive friends and family who gave generously and shared the link around to help spread even more awareness. Fundraising wisdom Pick a cause that is meaningful to you, as this certainly kept me going when the marathon felt tough. Make sure to post your JustGiving page to social media (if you have it) and post regularly, before during, after the event.
