Method of fundraising Daily walks for month of April 2021

Why did you decide to fundraise for your chosen cause?

I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in June 2018. I attended the Anne Rowling Clinic in Edinburgh as part of a research project on MS within Scotland. The Clinic is doing vital research into various neurological conditions which will hopefully lead to new discoveries about these conditions. All the money raised will enable this research to continue and hopefully the discovery of new treatments and ultimately in the future – cures !!

How did you raise money?

I have been going for daily walks since the first lockdown in March 2020. This year I decided to use this as an opportunity to raise money for research into MS and other neurological conditions.

I set up a JustGiving page and shared it on Facebook.

Initially I planned to walk two miles each day in April – a total of 60 miles - but as the month went on I passed that number and decided to challenge myself to walk 100 miles which I achieved by April 30th.

Living on a beautiful island between Skye and the mainland with lovely scenery was a great incentive and I saw parts of the island I’ve never walked to before in the 30 odd years living here.

The support I received from family and friends was amazing and it encouraged me to keep going. Everyone in the community was so encouraging when seeing me out on my daily walk.

I am still doing a walk every day, but not 100 miles a month!!
