Catherine and colleagues organised Afternoon Tea to support LGSOC research. Name Catherine Noonan Cause fundraised for Low grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC) research Method of fundraising Afternoon Tea Image Why did you decide to fundraise for your chosen cause? I have stage 4 low grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC). I was diagnosed in July 2021; I have a young family and an amazing husband that I need to fight this disease for. Having researched LGSOC since diagnosis, the lack of funding for research is very disappointing. I have listened to YouTube interviews with Professor Charlie Gourley at the University of Edinburgh and the research he is doing is amazing. It’s a great comfort to know him and his team are actively researching this disease. How did you raise money? My colleagues at ELFC arranged an Afternoon Tea event where everyone either brought in cake/buns or donated - most did both! The generosity was amazing! We are a relatively small company and have managed to maintain that family feel - everyone is like a friend and that showed in their generous donations. Our company (ELFC) matched the amount raised (over $1,800) through the Community Relations Service Committee. I spoke to colleagues about our disease and explained the lack of funding resulting in lack of research; this made it more personal for people. Fundraising wisdom Just do what you are able and feel comfortable, try not to stress yourself and remember every donation makes a difference no matter how big or small.
