Hannah Course History Year Third Image As a caller, I have always been surprised by how much the University and the city have changed since many alumni were students. With accommodation blocks where the library now stands, huge changes to rent prices and many buildings renovated or renamed, many alumni may find Edinburgh today rather unfamiliar! But this is where reunions are so valuable. In my time as a caller I remember one particular conversation with an alum who had greatly appreciated returning to Edinburgh for dentistry reunions. Much like our callers who so enjoy hearing the different journeys alumni have taken after graduating, reunions allow alum to do the same. Even with vocational degrees, there are so many opportunities for an Edinburgh graduate, that everybody has a different and exciting story to tell. Reunion organisers are a key element in keeping the Edinburgh alumni community alive, giving invaluable opportunities for alumni to come together all over the world. For the alum I spoke to, not only was he able to reunite with his fellow classmates, he was able to reacquaint himself with the city that unites us all, Edinburgh. Beyond the event itself, alumni enjoy the opportunity to explore the city, reunions being the occasion that inspires many alumni to return for the first time since graduating. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank you for being a reunion organiser. So many alumni are grateful for the opportunities that reunions afford and as a student I’m grateful to you, and others like yourself. Those who are willing to put in all the hard work that organisation requires, in order to make sure the alumni community remains alive. I look forward to remaining involved in that community long after I graduate. Hannah November 2020 This article was published on 2024-10-29
