Meet Prudence fourth year Politics student ... Image Why did you choose the University of Edinburgh? I have always had a keen interest in how different countries are governed and with the Scottish Parliament only a short walk away from the University of Edinburgh, played a huge role in my decision. Secondly, I received a scholarship to study at the University which was an irrefutable opportunity. Why did you choose your course and what do you like about it the most? I chose to study Politics because I am interested in governance and how this differs across different countries. I also recognized that some of the most renowned African leaders studied at the Uni. What’s yourmost fond of memory of Edinburgh so far? Going to Princes Street for shopping while appreciating the architecture Why did you choose to become a student caller? I love any opportunity to give back, and the job gives me the opportunity to not only realise this but to also to engage with Alumni on how they can do this through the University. What do you like most about being a caller? Getting to experience the university through the various Alumni stories- even stories that date back to the 90s. What did you miss most? (from the cancelled campaigns last year) Working together with other callers and learning from each other’s experiences in the call room. What are you looking forward to in this year’s telethon campaign? Hearing different people’s experiences post-lockdown and how that has impacted their outlook on life. What has been your experience talking to alumni of the university? It has been rewarding, just hearing how most of the Alumni still feel connected and positive about the university is reassuring. Alumni give some of the best advice! Any advice/quote/story from alumni that you found meaningful to you in any way? Please include explanation An Alumni once advised me to be open-minded about my career path and be very intentional with developing interdisciplinary skills during university. This proved very useful and evident when I was applying for summer internships in financial firms as the firms were looking for students that are teachable and those that have applicable skills rather than a discipline. What question do you wish you could ask alumni but are too scared to ask? How differently would they have utilized their years at Uni and Edinburgh? During your University years, what kind of Alumni support would have been meaningful to you? What questions do you wish alumni ask you that never gets asked?
